A high performance liquid chromatographic procedure, for the determination of ortho-, meta- and para- toluenesulfonamide (TSA) is described . Chromatography is performed on a Shim-Pack CLC-SIL(150×6mm i. d. ) column with a mobile phase of n-hexane (or petroleum ether 60-90℃ )-tetrahydrofuran-methanol 78.5:21: 0.5(V/V) and UV detection at 268nm. The linearity of the method was checked by plotting the peak area of TSA versus the added contents of TSA. Statistical analysis by linear least-squares method indicated good linearity with a coefficient of correlation over 0. 9999 for o- , m- .p- TSA. In summary, the proposed HPLC method works under simple chromatographic condition (simultaneous determination of o-, m-,p- TSA needs eight minutes only), and offers a general and practical procedure suitable for a reliable quality control of industrial products of o-, p- TSA and TSA mixture.
