On the Core Competence of Universities

社会主义市场经济体制的建立和完善,加入世界贸易组织带来的机遇和挑战,高等教育的大众化、国际化、信息化和产业化,推动了大学之间日益加剧的竞争。在这种激烈的竞争环境中,只有切实把握核心竞争力的构成要素及其基本特征,努力培育、维持并不断提升核心竞争力,大学才能获取持续的、独具的、整体的竞争优势,肩负起培养人才、发展科学、服务社会的使命,从而不断提高自身的综合实力,增强自我发展能力,和谐、协调、健康发展。

Competition between universities has become increasingly fierce due to many factors such as the establishment of the socialist market economy, challenges offered by China＇s reentry into the WTO and the popularization, internationalization and industrialization of the higher education. In such a competitive environment, universities should have a full understanding of the constituents and features of the core competence and constantly preserve and increase such competence, so that they can keep a continuous, unique and all-round competitive edge in order to fulfill their own missions of cultivating talents and developing science and develop themselves at the same time.
