<ABSTRACT> Thepapersystematicallyanalyzestheimpactsofsocialeconomicdevelopmentonfertilitybycombiningquantitativewithqualitativemethods,timeseriesanalysiswithcross-sectionanalysis.Theresearchconcludesthatthefinaldeterminantoffertilityiseconomicdevelopmentandthateconomicdevelopmentformsthefounda-tionoffertilitydeclineandlongtermconditiontokeeppopulationundercontrol.
