摘要
The historiography of Ranke represented by the leading German historian Leopold von Ranke not only greatly benefited Western historiography, but also had a great influence over modem Chinese historiography in the first half of the 20^th century. Chinese historical circles came into contact with and accepted Ranke's historiography via Japan, the U.S. and Europe. In the course of this process, the Japanese historians Ukita and Shiratori Kurakichi had the greatest impact. He Bingsong, a Chinese scholar who had studied in the U.S., translated American historian James Harvey Robinson's The New History and, based on the spirit of this book, wrote Methodology of Historical Research and A General History with New Meanings. These historical works have close li'nks with the new American history that inherited the historiography of Ranke.
