The New Humanism and the School of Xueheng

“学衡派”以《学衡》杂志为理论宣传阵地,以白璧德的新人文主义为思想武器,与新文化运动相抗衡,最后以失败而告终。但是,在中国迈向现代化的初始,“学衡派”表现出的“新保守主义”,在接受现代性的政治、经济和技术特征的同时,试图从文化发展的继承性和规范化上制衡文化激进主义、惟科学主义带来的社会文化观念和人生信念的现代失范,尤其是人文精神、伦理道德的沦丧或异化。

Xueheng Journal as their propaganda frontier, Bai Bide＇ s new humanism as their ideological weapon, the School of Xueheng turned against the movement of new culture and ended in failure finally. But at the beginning of China＇ s step in modernization,the School of Xueheng showed their new conservatism.
