The opening ceremony of the CMA Center for Atmosphere Watch and Service （CAWAS） performed on 16 December 2004 in Beijing at the China Meteorological Administration （CMA）. The center, chaired by Prof. Zhang Xiaoye, is a joint operational institution mainly based on the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, supported by various operational centers of CMA. The focal objectives include： to give full play to CMA＇s advantage of having national-level research and operational institutions and the observation network system; to carry out and facilitate the researches and operational services relative to atmospheric components and atmospheric chemistry through combining researches and operational services together; to improve ceaselessly the innovative capability of CMA＇s scientific researches, technology development and multi-function operational services in the key and hot fields over the world.
