Since 1980s, intellectual history, a newly-developed branch of French historical studies, has come into being, on the backdrop of the ascendancy of the study on political culture and the wide concern on intellectual issues in French society. Jean-Franois Sirinelli, the reigning representative of this branch and a current professor in the Institut d'Etude Politique of Paris, is a pioneer in the study of French intellectual history. He studies successfully on the history of French intellectuals by utilizing the approaches of concept“itinétaire', “sociabilité'and “generation'. His studies has the meaning of initiation, thus provides us a valuable reference.
