从鬼魂到勇士:《女勇士》中自我属性的建构

From Ghosts to Warriors:The Construction of Self-identity in The Woman Warrior

汤亭亭在其代表作《女勇士》中刻画了一个华裔小女孩追求自我属性的心路历程。为了表现其中的复杂和艰辛,作者将中国历史、家族传奇、民间传说和鬼怪故事融合在一起。从题目和副标题可以看出生活在双重文化所产生的各种鬼魂中间的主人公为了寻求真正的自我创造了花木兰和蔡琰的英雄形象。拟从鬼魂和勇士所蕴涵的观点(文化无根性和属性意识)分析主人公摆脱主流文化的压迫,成功建构自我属性的历程。

Maxine Hong Kingston depicts a young girl＇s perplexed search for self- identity in The Woman Warrior. In order to manifest the hardship and complication of the struggle, Maxine employs Chinese history, family saga, folk literature and ghost stories, etc. to represent a Chinese American girl＇s experiences. The title The Woman Warrior and the subtitle Memoirs of a Girlhood among Ghosts throw some lights on the content. The young Maxine who lives among various ghosts in the hybrid cultures can only resort to the images of the woman warriors to discover her genuine self. Ghost and warrior images respectively represent the narrator＇ s different opinions towards identity issue： the cultural rootlessness and the consciousness of identity. This paper analyses young Maxine how to search for her genuine self successfully.
