虽然《品花宝鉴》明显地借用才子佳人小说模式,长期以来被人们认为因循守旧,艺术价值不高,但是作者陈森在借用这种模式时也自觉地进行了不少创新,使得这部小说成为了近代文学史上不可绕过的一部作品。

It is evidently that the book To Size up Lizzie Actors uses the mode of gentleman and lady novel, which has been regarded as conformism and lack of the esthetic value.But when the author CHEN Sen used the mode, he was conscious to innovate in many aspects, such as in choosing the theme, reflecting the society and the people＇s thinking in every way, creating some individual characters and so forth, which have made this novel remarkable in the end of 19 century.
