Morality is a complex system of rules, intuitions, understandings and arguments which affect the ways we deal with one another, All of these intersect to inform our moral thinking, This is especially relevant in the area of embryo and stem cell ethics where thoughts from our understandings of human life and its origins mix with thoughts about therapy and the use of transplanted tissue. We resolve this partly by argument and partly by acknowledgement and, as in many areas of moral thought our stories about life and the ways it can unfold have an important part to play in reflecting on the relevant issues. When we consider the stories that can be woven around embryos, the sources and use of human tissue used in stem cell therapy it becomes clear that most uses of stem cells are part of a different area of human discourse from our thinking about our own origins, our children and our families.
