摘要
Chapter One Containerization During the rapid and stable development of China’s economy and foreign trade, coastal ports act as windows for the nation to join in the economic globalization trend, adding that the container transport has become an important modernized transport form due to its superiority in efficiency, convenience and security. Shipping cargo traffic growth has been huge since the end of World War II, and containerization has played a prominent role on accelerating this growth. Some growth of containerization is related to the more broad scope of containerized commodities. Part of this is a natural process and part of it is related to the need of operators to achieve economies of scale. Currently, container traffic growth consistently exceeds growth in global GDP by 2 or 3 percentage points (see table1-1).Growth is now felt to be likely at about 6 percent through to 2006.
