Sequence of Events in the English Language and Basic Ways of Showing Sequential Relationships

事序是英语的重要语言现象。事序深刻地反映一事物与他事物之间的关系,表达语篇内的命题或交际行为的句子之间的语义连贯,确切地体现作者的思想。笔者探讨了英语事序的内涵、结构要素和属性,研究了事序表达的基本方法,并归纳了事序的五个基本特点。

Sequence of events is a very important phenomenon in the English language, with which the relationship between one event and other events is intensively expressed, the coherence of the statement or communicating actions between sentences is guaranteed, and the author＇s thought is accurately showed out. This paper discusses the intention, structural elements, properties of the sequence of events, and analyses the ways of showing sequential relationships, concluding with five characteristics of the sequence of events.
