“广播电视大学”英译名的商榷

The English Translation of Guangbo Dianshi Daxue

对我国“广播电视大学”现有的英译Radio and TV University存有质疑,分析国内外此类学校的特点、发展历史以及各种惯用表达,认为对外交流中我国这类学校名称的翻译应该摒弃字面对应的中式表达,沿用英语国家已有的通用表达University of the Air或是Open University。

This essay analyzes the connotation of ＂Guangbo Dianshi Daxue＂ in China and discusses names of such schools in English--speaking countries. The author believes the translation of Guangbo Dianshi Daxue should adopt the idiomatic way of English expression; University of the Air or Open University.
