An extensive field survey and sampling were made in 2004 to the Lipu Manganese Mine land which has been reclaimed for over 20 years. 36 plant species from 22 families were recorded in the mineland. Results indicate the soil was probably contaminated by Mn and some regional soils by Cd with Cu and Pb in lower levels. Concentrations of Cu and Pb in plants were in normal range, but for tissues of some plants,Cd and Mn contents were higher than normal range. Both Biological Accumulating Coefficient and Biological Transfer Coefficient were larger than 1 for Castanea henryi and Phytolacca acinosa, indicating these two species are good for the ecological restoration of manganese mine wasteland. As a major economic crop of this restored area ,Chinese chestnut contained heavy metals higher than the allowable safety standards ,thus is not edible for human being.
