This thesis falls into two parts. Part One is a brief introduction to Cai Gen Tan, a popular book written by Hong Yingming, a scholar of the Ming Dynasty, and a best seller in China and Japan during the recent 20 years or so. Part Two, the main part of the whole article, is a comparative study of Cai Gen Tan' s 2 English versions translated and Paul White. Through the comparing of the two English versions, a conclusion is reached holding that the statement like "there are few exceptions to the rule that translation is best done into, not out of, one' s own language" by some foreign expert seems more and more a fallacy.
