《豪门春秋》是美国现代女作家伊迪丝.华顿发表于1905的一部长篇小说。以美国南北战争后纽约上层社会为主要背景,描述了一位年轻女子———丽莉.巴特的种种遭遇。犹太富商西姆.罗西德虽然只是一个次要角色,但由于其身份和民族的特殊性,在小说中却是一位不可或缺的人物。从历史、文化和社会这三个角度出发来探讨罗西德作为一个犹太人在当时的境遇,并将其与同为犹太民族的、处于16世纪末的另一个文学人物夏洛克作一比较。西姆.罗西德是继夏洛克后又一个犹太文学形象。

Published in 1905 ,The House of Mirth is a novel written by a famous American female writer,Edith Wharton. Set in the upper class of New York society after the Civil War, a description of the experiences of a young lady Lily Bart is given. At the same time, there is a minor character a Jew businessman, Simon Rosedale. A minor character as he is, Rosedale is an indis- pensable figure in the novel because of his special race and racial identity. From the perspective of history, culture and society, the predicament which a Jew has encountered in the society is explored. Moreover, a comparison is made between Simon Rosedale and another Jewish literary figure——Shylock. Simon Rosedale is another Jewish literary figure.
