According to the development situation of national economy and the demand on iron and steel production, it is expounded that though there is enormous market of iron ore industry, its supply and demand situation is severe. The thought on iron ore supply development is proposed. In addition to the long-term strategy and effective supplement measures such as the exploration of new resource, utilization of secondary resource and fine quality ore import, it is important to develop domestic mine technology and increase domestic ore production to meet the demand on iron and steel so as to support the development of national economy. The basic technical orientation and the main research contents for the development of iron industry are also described.
