Prevailing issues existent in the current residence land system in rural areas, which has been a legacy of the previous planned economy, are summed up, and objectives are proposed on the reform of rural residence land. A viable solution should be： the State taking the ownership; rural households enjoying the absolute rights of usage and right of transfer; title transfer based on payment basis; demand and supply modulated by market mechanism; integrating residence land markets between rural and urban areas, etc. Further analysis is provided on the feasibilities and advantages of this proposed solution.
