Aim\ To investigate the changes of cerebral hemodynamics in hypertensive patients and the relationship between these changes and the aging, the stages.\ Methods\ The mean blood velocity(Vm) and blood pulse index(PI) of cerebral middle artery, vertebral artery were measured by transcranial Doppler sonography(TCD) in 80 normal subjects and 166 hypertensive patients.\ Results\ Vm in hypertensive group was decreased significantly and negatively correlated with age; but PI increased signficantly and positive correlatiion with age. The changes of PI could be detected in early stage of hypertension. The changes of Vm was detected after the second stage of hypertension.\ Conclusion\ The Vm and PI of TCD is a sensitive method for determining the changes of blood flow and vessel status in hypertensive patients.
