A brief discussion on the gentlemen group in modern China and its differentiation

绅士集团是自唐宋以后伴随着科举制的实行而形成的一个独特的社会集团。随着近代中国社会的发展,绅士集团的构成和基本特征等都发生了变化。由于社会变革的冲击,绅士集团首先发生了分化,这种分化直接导致中国封建专制统治基础的瓦解,加速了近代化进程的步伐。

The gentlemen group was a unique social group which came into being with the implementation of the imperial examination system since the Tang and Song Dynasties. With the development of modern China, the constitution and main features of this group changed greatly. Due to the impact of social reforms, the gentlemen group was differentiated, which directly resulted in the collapse of the foundation of Chinese feudal dictatorial rule.
