The changes in the opposing forces of the conservative camp and the innovative camp in Japan show that Japan and the Japanese politics tend to become more conservative with the role of ideology weakened. While this is partly the consequence of the changing situation in Japan and in the world, the impact of Japanese economic development cannot be overestimated. The conser- vative trend became obvious after the 1980s,and the post-cold-war era witnessed its further development when the Japanese politics as a whole turned to the conservative end. This will exert heavy influence on Japan's future.
