A Tough Road to Democracy

独立后的乌克兰一直面临着各种各样的问题,人民的生活水平并不理想。“橙色革命”发生后,国内的局势依然严峻。政府内部存在着严重分歧,总统和总理的执政理念差异很大。能源危机困扰着经济发展,腐败问题仍然没有得到有效遏制。尽管困难重重,但经济仍在继续增长,这在一定程度上缓解了新政府的压力。乌克兰的媒体环境比原来改善很多,但是新闻自由仍然受到各种因素的限制。新政府外交政策的轮廓已经基本形成,欧盟、俄罗斯以及其他周边国家和地区都是乌克兰的重要合作伙伴。

Ukraine has been confronting various problems since its independence, and the people’s lives have suffered. After the “orange revolution,” the grim situation continues to exist. There have been serious divergences within the government, and the governing philosophies of the president and the prime minister are quite different. The energy crisis hinders economic development, while corruption has not been effectively contained. Despite these numerous difficulties, Ukraine’s economy continues to grow, which, to some extent, has relaxed the pressures on the new government. The media environment has greatly improved, but press freedom is still limited by some factors. The new government’s fo￣reign policy has been formulated, and the EU, Russia, and other neighboring countries are all important partners of Ukraine.
