Because many owners of combined-cycle plants have been forced to transition from baseload to cycling operation, perhaps cycling the plant every day to catch emerging power sale opportunities, some HRSG economizers and feederwater preheaters seem to suffer tube failures more often than others. HRSGs subjected to high cycling operating profiles are affected by thermal stress, water chemistry (notably dissolved oxygen), other operational considerations, or all of the above resulting the economizer tube failures.
