Retrospection of the History of Linguistics and Forecasting of Its Development

语言学的发展已经过了古典语言学、比较语言学、形式语言学、功能语言学及认知语言学等五个发展时期。当科学技术的发展导致心理学、神经语言学、生理语言学等研究方面的突破后,语言学将会有一次新的革命,即向实用语言学的发展。

The development of linguistics has gone through five stages, that is, the stages of classical linguistics, comparative linguistics, formal linguistics, functional linguistics and cognitive linguistics. Development in science and Technology is sure to result in breakthroughs in fields such as psychology, neuro-linguistics and physiolinguistics some day. When these breakthroughs become reality, there will be another revolution in linguistics --the emergence of applicable linguistics.
