“以人为本”的思想源远流长,其精神实质是追求社会和谐。“以人为本”是相对于“以物为本”提出来的,它是目的不是手段。和谐社会是人类社会发展进程中的协调状态。它具有相对性、层次性、动态性和必然性。其必然性是构建社会主义和谐社会最根本的哲学根据。构建和谐社会的目的是为了人,构建和谐社会要依靠人“,以人为本”是构建和谐社会的核心。

The thought of ＂human being as focus point＂ can be traced back to a long history, and its spiritual nature is of seeking harmonious society. ＂Human being as focus point＂ was put forward in reference to ＂object as focus point＂. The former serves as target but not way to this target. Harmonious society is a situation of coordination in the developing process of human society, and possesses its relativity, hierarchy, mobility, and necessity. Its necessity serves as the most fundamental ground of philosophy for building socialist harmonious society. The target of building harmonious society is for people, and building such a society will also depend on human being. ＂Human being as focus point＂ is the kernel part for building harmonious society.
