Ethics in Blake’s Poetry

Blake lived in the second half of the 18th century and early 19th century. Set in a special historical context, his poetic art is loaded with cultural and ethical implications. Though apparently obscure, his poetry shows the poet’s concern about the truth of humanity, advocates freedom, explores the way to permanent happiness and reveals the poet’s dream of an ethical utopia. As such, his poetry takes on a strong aesthetic colour and is imbued with generous ethical concern.
