In the course of C5 fraction separation the diolefin components are apt to polymerize during extractive rectification processes, and the polymers thus formed are prone to plug the trays and reboiler, which is a beast seriously constraining the extended and smooth operation of process units. Thus the Chemical Engineering Research Institute of SINOPEC Shanghai Petrochemical Company, Ltd. has been targeting its efforts since July 2004 on utilization of new technology for polymerization inhibition in a bid to extend the operating cycle of process units.
