A dichotomy of perfection

本文起始从哲学和文艺的角度追溯理想主义的根源;进而遑论建筑界两种对立的完美:理想主义的和现实主义的,并认为这对矛盾是可以统一的,历数古今中外各种“过时”的理想,指出它们具有现代意义;最后,寄语建筑师不要放弃理想。

To begin with, this essay tells about the origin of idealism in fields of philosophy, literature and arts. Furthermore, it talks of an architectural dichotomy of perfection into the idealistic and the realistic with the belief that the contradiction could be unified, and quotes one by one various Chinese and western stereotyped ideals to assure their modern values. In the end, its author advises architects not to give up their ideals.
