From April to June of 2004, the Relics and Archaeology Institute of Changsha City excavated the well groups which stand at the Southeastern Wuyi Square of the central Changsha City. Celadon ware, pottery, lacquer ware, in total of several hundreds, were unearthed; moreover, a batch of bamboo slips, which were dated back to the Eastern Han, were discovered in an old-aged well. It is concluded that the well was put into operation from the Emperor Huan of the Eastern Han to the late period of the Emperor Ling, and it was abandoned from the late Ling to the early stage of Sun-Wu. The reign titles which were discovered in these bamboo slips are Jianning, Xiping, Guanghe, Zhongping, belonging to the Emperor Ling of the Eastern Han. This group of bamboo books, which are great value to the research on styles, contents of bamboo slips and calligraphy, are official and private documents that were received and dispatched through post houses by Changsha Prefecture and Linxiang County.
