对《东西洋考每月统记传》这一西方新教传教士在中国创办的第一种用汉文出版的综合性时事半月刊的经济学编辑特色进行探讨,指出它具有为中西通商服务的明确编辑方针,是最早向中国介绍跨国公司这种企业组织形式的刊物,采用简洁明了的表格形式刊载出口商品信息和以中国传统的章回故事体介绍经济学知识和通商信息等独具特色的经济学期刊编辑方法,并且鲜明地提出自由贸易、万国通商、以商科农等主张。
By studing the editing characteristics in terms of ecomonics of the Eastern ＆ Western Monthly, a comprehensive news monthy published in Chinese by the western commissioners in China, the paper points out the editing policy of the journal is to serve the Western-Eastern Commercial exchange and introduce the western multi - national cooperations to China. The monthly also boasts some economics-oriented journals＇ editing method of infroducing economic knowledge and commercial exchange information. The monthly also forwards some suggestions of free economic trade, multi- national trade by using commerce to compensate agriculture. Therefore, it is the first specialized journal with a detailed information abou-sino-western trade.
