Morman Mailer＇s The Naked and The Dead has been generally acknowledged as one of the most influential American novels after WWII. Since its publication, it has gained special attention in the critical world and critics have never come to an agreement about its theme. The author himself claimed the novel as a symbol, which manifested the clash between animal nature and human ideal.
