The main character Sun Wu- kong in Xi You Ji(“Journey to the West”)is a child of Nature who was from the Earth and Heaven. Therefore, he was endowed with freedom. With the limitless growth of his freedom, he sets himself in conflict with the social civilization ,and Jinguzhou(a curse used to tighten the ring around his head) has to be used to limit his act. It is a pity that in the novel “Xi You Ji” ,Jinguzhou is abut. Jinguzhou is used in the novel to symbolize various rules and regulations in society, and thus it has become a cultural sign.
