Ilse Aichinger was born on November 1,1921 in Vienna, and her mother was Jewess. During the Second World War several relations of her died in concentration camps. After the war she began to write because writing is silence to her. The silence of her works, especially her poems, made them difficult to understand, the critics could not find any theories to analyze her works. So they must use the words and works of Aichinger herself to interpret her works. Anyway you are fascinated of them and from 1952 to 2000 she has won 18 prizes, including Kakfa-Prize. This is the power of Aicbinger's silence. In her collection of poems Suggestions Given Away, the silence is everywhere to astonish the reader.
