Effects of the Appreciation of RMB

自2002年以来,关于人民币紧盯美元的汇率制度日益受到西方国家的责难,尤其在2005年,来自以美国为首的发达国家要求人民币升值的压力与日俱增。中国政府必须深入研究和分析人民币升值对中国经济与世界经济将产生如何影响,积极主动寻求应对策略,避免陷于在外部压力下不得不被动盲目升值或僵化死守与美元保持相对固定汇率的两难局面,从我国的基本国情出发,积极稳妥地推进中国的汇率改革。

Since 2002, China has been attacked by western countries for its policy that RMB should be pegged with several major currencies. Particularly in 2005, China was under great pressure by the developed countries such as the US to adjust its rate of exchange. China must ponder over the advantages and disadvantages brought about by the appreciation of RMB, thus coming up with a right policy, avoiding being trapped in a dilemma that either RMB is forced to appreciate or it remains unchanged regardless of the fluctuating world economies. It＇s advisable that China choose its mechanism and policy of exchange rate according to its practical economic conditions so that it can keep the rate of exchange basically stable.
