浅谈“君子不器”

以往的注家都把《论语》中的“君子不器”，解释为“君子不象器皿一般”，把“不”看作否定词。其实， “不”在古书中与“丕”通用，“丕”训“大”，故“君子不器”解释为“君子大器”更为确切，意即君子应该具有博大的胸襟、多方 面的才能。本文将从古书用例来证明这一观点。

In the past the interpretors explained the phrase ＂jun zi bu qi＂ in Lun Yu that ＂A man of noble character is not likea container＂. ＂Bu＂ iss treated as an negative word. In fact , ＂bu＂ and ＂qi＂ have the same use in the ancient books. ＂Jun zi bu qi＂ here should be explained as ＂jun zi da qi＂. It means that jun zi should have broad eyes and all kinds of capabilities. In this essay some examples drawn from the ancient books are given to prove the point.
