Why Tao Yuanming Refused to Be a Poet of Landscape

虽然陶渊明具备做山水诗的可能性,但贯穿于陶诗的思想是生命思索,是他在人生实践中对儒、释、道思想的感悟和认识,“我”与“物”联系在生命意义上的不可分割的意识导致了他不把山水作为审美对象,也不做山水诗。

Tao Yuanming had potential to be a good poet of landscape; however, the main idea in his poems is his reflection on life, his understanding of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism in practice. The awareness of unalienated relationship of “I” and “substance” made him refuse to regard landscape as an aesthetic target and refuse to write landscape poems.
