Editotrial note:Will societal modernization increase,decrease,or merely shape psychiatric morbidi-ty in the community?How does illness experience reflect social,economic and political transformations?What is the exact nature of the relationship between these macrosocial forces and mental illness,and so-cial suffering more generally?How do they impact the delivery of mental health service and the preven- tion of psychiatric morbidity?The following two articles address some of these intriguing issues.TheEditorial Board welcomes contributions reflecting diverse points of view on this topic.
