“汉语保卫说”论析

A study of the view on the campaign of protecting the Chinese language

跨入新世纪以来,由于英语等世界通用语在中国的普遍运用,汉语的使用受到冲击,一些文人学者开始倡导“保卫汉语”。然而,语言的发展与演变有其自身的规律,人为地去“保卫”只会使汉语更加封闭。只有不断借鉴外来文化,才能促进汉语自身的发展进步。

With the advancement of China＇ s reform and opening to the outside world, our mother tongue Chinese is encountering an unprecedented shock wave with foreign languages, particularly with English. Under this circumstance some Chinese experts and literary men are feeling uneasy about the future of Chinese and appealed a campaign to protect the purity of Chinese. This paper presents an opposing argument on the following two issues： （ 1 ）The development of a language has its own law which can not be dominated by any human beings; （2） The borrowing of foreign language will do nothing bad but improve and enrich our mother tongue.
