鲁迅先生的《现代史》是一篇用寓言形式写的杂文,作者站在无产阶级与民族解放的立场,以其深邃、敏锐、独特的眼光,将“中国现代史”比喻为“变戏法”,揭示了辛亥革命时期到30年代这一时期中国“变戏法”式的历史,勾勒出一幅中国现代史的病理图;文章还以其独特的艺术形式,成为鲁迅九百多篇杂文中一篇具有独立性格的文字。

Contemporary History written by Luxun is an essay written in the form of fable. Keeping to the stand of proletariat and national liberation, the author compares “Chinese Contemporary History” to “juggle” and reveals Chinese history of “juggle” type from the period of the Revolution of 1911 （the Chinese bourgeois democratic revolution led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen which overthrew the Qing Dynasty） to the period of 1930s in a profound, keen and unique eye. The essay also sketches the contours of a pathological picture of Chinese contemporary history. Because of its unique art form, it becomes one work with independent character among more than 900 essays written by Luxun.
