The present paper takes four pieces of English translation of Libai＇s J ingyesi for example and discusses the formal differences between English and Chinese from the viewpoint of the text linguistics. Generally speaking, English has a well-knit cohesion, strong rationality and so has a long text; Chinese pays more attention to coherence, intentionali- ty so has a short text. Because of this, the meaning of the English poem is easy to understand while that of Chinese is quite obscure.
