乌兰夫同志担任中共中央统战部长后,带领广大统战干部和统战人员,大力进行拨乱反正,全面落实统战政策,消除统一战线长期“左”的错误思想的影响,特别是肃清林彪、“四人帮”破坏党的统战工作的罪行和流毒,做艰苦细致的工作,使党的统一战线从瘫痪、混乱走上了正轨。他深刻阐述新时期党的统战工作的重要性,在党中央的领导下,确定新时期党的统一战线的性质、任务、方针和政策,开创了统战工作的新局面。为了使党的统战工作进一步提高到一个新的水平,他大力加强统战部门的思想建设和组织建设,为建设一支优秀的统战干部队伍做了不懈的努力。

Appointed to be Head of United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, Ulanhu led the vast numbers of cadres working in united front and the personnel in united front in bringing order out of chaos, implementing in an all-round way the policy of united front, eliminating the impact of long ＂Left＂ wrong thinking on united front, especially the crimes and the widespread pernicious influence committed and exerted by Lin Biao and the Gang of Four and led the Party＇ s united front onto the correct path from a standstill and chaos by doing painstaking ideological work. He profoundly expounded the significance of the Party＇ s united front, and under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, he laid down the nature, the tasks and general and specific policies of the Party＇ s united front and created a new situation of united front.
