The Temple of Heaven, first built in 1420, or the 18th year of the reign of the Ming emperor Yongle, was completed after extension in 1751, or the 16th year of the reign of the Qing emperor Qianlong.A most spledid Chinese ancient architectural complex located in the southern part of the city of Beijing, this temple affords a scenic view at the south end of the axial line running through the city.During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the space outside the wall of the Temple of Heaven was so serene and deligntful. But today, the 'Heavenly Realm' finds itself in unsightly srroudings of busy markets. For protection and utilization fo this rare cultural heritage of the world, a protective programme of control has been formulated. To carry out such a programme, however, will be an arduous task.To well protect the Temple of heaven, it is deemed necessary to have a general awareness of the need to develop Beijing with the nicest care.Indeed the protection and development of the temple grounds relies on Beijing's overall environmental improvement.
