当前世界高职发展的基本趋势主要有以下方面：扩展高教规模，尤其是专科层次的高职规模：加强“实践性教学”的环节，强化“就业导向”的教育与培训；应对知识、技术、技能更新需求，重视非正规、非学历的成人职业培训；重视弱势群体的教育，扩大高职教育的受益面；为高职设计新的学位．加强其在高等教育中的地位；强调中、高职衔接，拓展继续职业教育的通道。
