With the opening of five trading ports in China, H uzhou silk trade with foreign countries witnessed a rapid growth. However the end of the First World War brought about its dramatic decline. The author＇s research on the rise and fall of Huzhou silk trade with foreign countries concludes： （1）The key to maintaining a sustained growth is the overall strength of the nation. （2）The existence and development of a business depends on opportunity, the ability of adapting to the economic and political environment. （3）In order to survive in the fierce competition, it is necessary to follow closely the world trend, improve technology on a regular basis and ensure the high quality of the products.
