This paper posits that the study of literary variation that is newly proposed from a fresh perspective constitutes a potential research field of comparative literature. It analyses the theoretical bases of the proposed study of literary variation, and its relationship with the cross and literary characteristics of comparative literature. In the concluding part, it discriminates the research objects and the range of literary variation.
