The extraction, isolation and modern analytical techniques of resin in wood andpulp are introduced in this paper. The Soxhlet, supercritical fluid, Soxtec and solid phaseextraction methods can be used in the extraction of wood or pulp resin. DEAE-Sephadex ionexchange chromatography can separate the extractives into weak acids, strong acids and neu-tral components. The modern analytical techniques consist of gas chromatography , high per-formance liquid chromatography, gel permeation chromatography, thin layer chromatogra-phy, infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectoscopy.
