The development of the gill and the pilming systems is reviewed. The development of the one-way fallout bar is studied in detail. Over a period of 25 years, pinnping systems for chain-driven gills have undergone many changes： from soldered systems to pin-strip systems and finally to today＇s one-way faller bars, costs for pinning per kilogram of long-fiber staple production decreased by approx. 80% during this period.
