Text and Texture: On the Style and nature of Text and Language in Chinese Poetics

文质问题在中国文学审美领域占据重要位置。文与质的关系演变是一个相互推移、共同生发的过程,两者在过程中逐步发展、不断出新。同时在变化中又有不变者,这就是以本末体用来衡定文质关系的传统。

The issue of text and texture occupies an important position in aesthetics in Chinese literature. The evolution of text-texture relationship is a process of mutual movement and common generation. Both develop gradually and make it new continuously in this process. Meanwhile, there is something unchanged in that changing process, i.e. , the tradition to judge text-texture relationship by being fundamental or incidental.
