Modern Gentry's Power Movement in Hunan and Province and Constitution Autonomy

20世纪20年代湖南发起一场“省宪自治”运动,以求“湘人湘事自决”,但归于失败。“省宪自治”的失败与湖南省内长期以来的绅权运动所造成的绅士阶层势力膨胀以及绅士阶层自身的不断变化有着不可否认的联系。

In 1920＇s, Hunan witnessed a movement for province and eonstitution autonomy, whose goal was to resolve Xiang affairs by Xiang people themselves. However, it resulted in failure, which was closely related to the swelling of gentry＇s power caused by the gentry＇s power movement in Hunan for a long time and the changing situation of gentry.
