On the Peculiar Quality of Jazz in Larkin's Poetry

菲利浦.拉金(Philip Larkin 1922-1985,下文简称拉金)是英国当代著名的诗人、小说家,同时也是出色的爵士乐评论家。拉金对传统爵士乐的酷爱是谱写其诗歌的重要音符,爵士乐独特的音乐风格、文化特质和演奏技巧时而隐现在拉金典雅的诗歌中。拉金所倡导的清新、朴实的“运动派”的诗风也是一股传统爵士乐章,表达出他对传统的恢复和保护。

Being one of the most important of British poets in the twentieth century, Philip Larkin （ 1922 - 1985） contributed not only many outstanding works in poetry, but also in Jazz analysis. His love to traditional Jazz is a note of music in his poetry. The unique style, culture characteristics and playing technique of Jazz are embodied in Larkin＇s poetry. The preserving and recurring tradition finds ultimate expression in the “Movement” school intellectuals＇ poems which sound like some pieces of traditional Jazz.
